Troubleshooting

Problem:
EAVES™ crashes after the splash screen is displayed.

Possible Solutions:
EAVES™ requires OMS. If OMS is not installed, EAVES™ may crash.

Problem:
I am running MIDI Manager. Is EAVES™ compatible with MIDI Manager?

Possible Solutions:
EAVES™ requires OMS and may conflict with the Apple's unsupported MIDI Manager. Please consult the OMS documentation to find out how to work with MIDI Manager.

Problem:
Some ASR parameters are not displayed on the Instrument or Wave Sample windows.

Possible Solutions:
Make sure that you selected the proper sampler model in the EPS/ASR Setup.

Problem:
Received "Timed out" message.

Possible Solutions:
Make sure MIDI Sys-Ex = On under the Edit/MIDI page of the sampler. (You might want to save this global parameter on the EPS/ASR OS disk).
Make sure MIDI connection is setup properly in the EPS/ASR Setup window under the Special menu.
Use the OMS Setup application and use the Test Studio menu option. Click the mouse on the sampler icon until you hear your sampler play. Sometimes this "unsticks" things.
Increase the time delay in the Preferences.
Check to see if the sampler crashed. See if the buttons on the sampler respond. If not, reboot the sampler. You may also want to restart EAVES™.
If all else fails, restart the EAVES™ application.

Problem:
Received message "Unexpected response from sampler. Something was wrong with the last data transfer which could not be processed".

Possible Solutions:
Under preferences, increase delay time between SysEx requests.
If you get a similar message while downloading samples, try decreasing the block size and/or increasing the delay time between blocks.

Problem:
I press the Play button in the Wave window but I don't hear anything in the Mac.

Possible Solutions:
Sound play requires Sound Manager 3 or higher.

Problem:
Problems downloading wave samples from the sampler.

Possible Solutions:
There are two settings in the Preferences that slow down the transfer of wave samples and other parameters. By increasing the delay, this should help the sampler keep up with the transfers and transfer requests. Also, the decreasing the wave sample block size could help.

Problem:
I click on a wave number in the Instrument Info/ Layer list but the the previously selected wave parameters window shows up.

Possible Solutions:
In this version of EAVES™, only one Wave Parameters window per Instrument can be displayed. You need to close the current Wave Parameters window before getting a new one.

Problem:
I was playing the keyboard while it was getting the wavesample info and then the got a "timed out getting instrument data" message. The sampler gave a "Error 144 - reboot?" message.

Possible Solutions:
Don't play the keyboard while transferring data. The sampler may not be able to keep up with everything and crash.

Problem:
I got the message "Sorry, OMS does not allow running multiple copies of the same application. Click Proceed (at your own risk) only if you're restarting a crashed application"...etc.

Possible Solutions:
This message appears if the previous session of EAVES™ did not quit gracefully (i.e. using the Quit menu item), and was not able to close the OMS session. Just click "Quit" and relaunch EAVES™. This should be reset OMS.
