Announcing Translator 7

And our entire product line - SamplerTools, Creator, everything

Translator 7 Announcement

Under the hood, this is a major update to Translator 7 and our entire product line. Features 64-bit applications, built with the latest compilers and technology. On the Mac, this means Cocoa under the hood and Catalina compatibility. On Windows, this means much smoother operation and a cleaner interface. On both platforms: Increased performance and no more fighting with the operating system.

We are also adding iLok protection, via the Cloud or dongle. iLok DonglesYou can put your license on a dongle, or authorize via the Internet. No more CD's or shipping costs. This is the Internet distribution you've all been requesting and waiting for.

This is the update we've been working on all year, and is the biggest undertaking we've made in quite awhile. This future-proofs our applications, putting them in strong position for further powerful features and updates.

As for Translator 7, we put in some exiting new features:

  • Layer Merging: When importing a multi-layer-sound Instrument, you can merge the sound data on the key-ranges into one sample. This is great for samplers that only use 1-2 keymaps or have small memory capacities. You get the have the entire sound in one Instrument!
  • Loop Editor: Although Translator 7 isn't an editor per se, this is handy in combination with the Layer Merging or the AutoSampler. Go through each sample easily and make sure the loops are okay, and includes crossfading utilities.
  • Slice Editor: When converting WAVE/AIFF to a Slice Format such as AppleLoops or Stylus RMX, Translator has it's own beat-slicing abilities, but there isn't any magic solution to beat slicing. The SLice Editor allows post-translation for individual checking of the transient points to make sure they are proper. WOrks a lot like Recycle, only honed to handle multiple loops.

IMPORTANT: When we say "Translator 7", we actually mean our entire product line. The rest of the applications are denoted as "Version 2". All the information applies to all the applications, except where noted.

IN THE PAST

There was one binary of Translator for Mac, one binary for Windows. These were compatible for all commonly used operating systems, from OSX 10.4 up to 10.14, and Windows XP to Windows 10. Translator 7 only works on more modern operating system (for Mac, at least)

Translator 7 OS Compatibility

  • macOS 10.11 (El Capitan) to macOS 10.15 (Catalina)
  • Windows 7 to Windows 10

In other words, the new version don't work on anything less than El Capitan Mac, and does not work any longer on Windows XP.

ILOK SUPPORT

Translator 7 uses iLok protection. You can choose a physical dongle license or an online (Cloud) one. The physical dongle allows operation without an Internet connection, the online one requires it.

Translator 7 does not require any shipping; it is a download-only product. For registered owners of Translator, the update is $29.95.

GOING FORWARD

Translator 7 will represent all upcoming innovation with our development and conversion engine work. Translator 6 will still be supported, although this will be limited to bug fixes and a feature here and there. Translator 6 will remain 32-bit-only, while Translator 7 is 64-bit-only. Translator 6 will remain using the current CD/DVD and serial numbers, while Translator 7 will use the iLok licensing exclusively.

We'd like to briefly explain our past policy of "all updates are free" - this still is our policy, but the work in upgrading to 64-bit and the cost of the iLok protection has forced us to make an exception. It also brings into balance our business model, which we've tried to keep in favor of the user instead of "picking your pocket" every version cycle. We have two reasons for trying to make all updates free: one is that we believe you deserve the product as it exists in time AND for what it will become with newer formats and other, and 2) we strongly believe you should never pay for a bug fix. This is why we will continue to support Translator 6, which will benefit from all efforts to make the conversion engine as robust and crash-free as possible.

All registered owners can continue to use the older version if they want, the upgrade is not mandatory. The older version will still be sold as well, to facilitate users of older operating systems.

Below are the planned updates on the older versions,a nd specically what we intend to go into the new versions.. We are making the best effort to include what was originally promised and not to mandate purchasing the newer version if you don't care to. However,
