Akai/Pulsar/MESA
to SampleTank Translation
This translation can convert Volumes, Programs, and Samples. In Volumes, Programs with the same Program Numbers may be combined into single SampleTank Instruments within the one or more SampleTank files that are created. Please see the Akai Options tab for specifics on how Akai objects can be translated into another format.
SampleTank can support a Stereo Sample structure - click here for more information.
Translator supports translation from MESA (.s3p (MESA II), .sp (Mac), and .prg (MESA I)), Pulsar (.p+.s, .p+.wav, or .sts+.wav), .ak1 adn .ak3 files, and Akai hard drives and CD-ROM's. It supports the newer S-5000 format also.
ST-Convertor, which comes with SampleTank, does an adequate job of reading and translating Akai Programs. However, it does not adequately convert many Programs. Please see the Miscellaneous topic Akai-compatible Compliance Support for additional information on the subject.
Since the SampleTank Instrument structure is limited as far as layers of sound go (really only one keymap, not counting discrete Velocity Splits), Translator may create more than one .sth/.sti/stw combination to recreate the sound. For example, if the Akai program "BRASS" requires three keymaps, then 9 files total will be created: BRASS 1.sth/.sti/.stw, BRASS 2.sth/.sti/.stw, and BRASS 3.sth/.sti/.stw.You will need to laod these seperately into SampleTank and access each instance with the same MIDI Channel number.
