Ensoniq EPS/ASR to Roland MV-8000 Translation

Ensoniq EPS/ASR Instruments are converted into as many as 4 Performances or Patches, each representing one of the programmed Patch Selects. An Ensoniq Patch Select may not contain valid data, in which case the corresponding Roland object will not be written.

Programs are named with the same 12 characters as their Ensoniq counterparts. The first Patch Select (OO) contains the full name; the other Patch Selects have OX, XO, and XX appended to their names.

Roland Patches only support up to 4 "layers" (simultaneously available pieces of wavedata per key). See Roland MV page for more information how Translator converts objects which exceed this limitation.

Ensoniq's have a "Layer Delay" parameter, where all the wavesamples in that Layer are delayed from sounding until up to 5 seconds. Translator compensates for this parameter by adding data to the sample when possible.

This page refers to the new MV-8000 sample-playback machine. Translator supports both the S-700 and MV-8000 formats; it is able to write to the older Roland proprietary format disk or Virtual Drive, and write the new MV-8000 .svd/.svp/.wav format.

Currently Roland MV-8000 translations are "Level One", meaning that they handle the basics - looping, tuning, mapping, and other basics. The Envelopes and other sound modifiers will be included shortly.
