Drag Method
The Drag Method enables you to
convert files from DOS to a proprietary SCSI Drive, or from a
proprietary SCSI Drive to either DOS or a proprietary SCSI Drive.
All dragging is done from the RIGHT to the LEFT.
It is a simple operation designed to fulfill the important information that
Translator needs to know in order to convert files.
- What do I want to
convert? (Is it a whole Akai CD? Just one Roland Patch?)
- What format do I want to
convert that to? (Do I want a SoundFont? Something else?)
- Where do I want to put
the converted file? (Should this go in my Gigs folder (c:\Gigs)?)
Dragging an object from the right to the
left answers all these questions by definition.
Example: Let's say you have an E-mu
(or any proprietary drive format, such as Akai, Ensoniq, etc.) CD-ROM
in your CD-ROM Drive, and you want to translate that into a
GigaStudio file (.gig).
Here are the steps:
- Where do I want to put
the converted file? Expand the DOS
directories on the left by clicking the "+"
signs, and expose the folder where you want to store the
new GigaStudio file.
- What do I want to
convert? Find the Emu Drive, Folder,
Bank, or Preset (or multiple objects also) you want to
translate on the Emu proprietary drive. Display it in the
Right Pane.
- Drag the Object from the Right
pane to the DOS folder you have chosen as the destination
in the Left Pane.
- What format do I want to
convert that to? Translator will bring up
a dialog asking you which format you want to translate to.
(However, if you want to convert to Akai, and you drop
the Emu Bank on an Akai drive, it will assume Akai and
not bring up the dialog. See also the Options pages for
more information.)
- Choose GigaStudio Instrument, and
click OK.
- Translator will start converting
the source Object into a GigaStudio .gig file, and will
tell you when it is done. Along the way Translator will
give you explicit status information.
