Kurzweil
to Emagic EXS-24 mkI & II Translation
Each Kurzweil Program, which there may be many in a single Kurzweil file, converts into a seperate EXS-24 Instrument.
Entire disks, as well as multiple directories and .krz-type files, can be translated.
Kurzweil's cleverly hide the fact that they do not save their files as interleaved Stereo files - they are saved and worked with as dual-mono files. Kurzweil samples that are mapped by their KeyMaps as "stereo" will be merged in a stereo .wav or AIFF for use in the EXS-24. For more information, see the miscellaneous topic "Stereo Wave Support".
Certain Kurzweil CD-ROMs can conflict with Windows - see the Miscellaneous article Kurzweil CD-ROM Support for more information.
Since the Kurzweil has cohabitated ROM synth sounds and samples for it's lifetime (for ten years), it's files sometimes reference waves from both RAM sample memory and internal ROM; if you have a translation that doesn't sound quite right, or seems to be missing a layer or a velocity range, this is often the case.
Kurzweil samplers have the capability for alternative looping modes; Translator compensates for these modes.
Translator gives you several options on where to put the translated .exs file(s) and the resulting .wav or AIFF files. Please see the EXS-24/HALion Options tab for more information.
Some translations may have varying results, due to the global nature of most of the EXS-24's cool program parameters. See Translation Comments for more details.
