Ensoniq EPS/ASR to Emagic EXS-24 mkI & II Translation

Status: Implemented in the current version of Translator.
This translation is available on the Windows and Mac versions.

Each Ensoniq Instrument translates to one or more (depending on the valid Patch Select combinations) EXS Instruments. Each Layer maps to a Group, and each Wavesample within a Layer maps to individual Zones.

Ensoniq's have a "Layer Delay" parameter, where all the wavesamples in that Layer are delayed from sounding for up to 5 seconds. Translator compensates for this parameter by adding data to the sample whenever possible.

Ensoniq samplers have the capability for alternative looping modes; Translator compensates for these modes.

Bulk translations are available.

The EXS-24 supports Stereo samples - click here for more information.

Translator gives you several options on where to put the translated .exs file(s) and the resulting .wav or AIFF files. Please see the EXS-24/HALion Options tab for more information.

Some translations may have varying results, due to the global nature of most of the EXS-24's cool program parameters. See Translation Comments for more details.

The EXS-24 has a unique way of referencing it's samples (.wav files or AIFF files) from it's .exs control file. Read the instructions on moving PC EXS-24 files to the Mac from the PC for more information if you plan on using Translator for Windows to translate and then move the files to the Mac. This will insure that the files work right when loaded into EXS-24 on the Mac.

KeySwitching and Release Trigger Support
This format supports keyswitching, which is a function where pressing a non-sounding key (or a Patch Select in the case of Ensoniq) instructs the sampler engine to switch what samples play on what key.

This format also supports other similar features such as release trigger samples, samples manipulated by the sustain pedal, etc.

Since this source format may contain this type of information, it is supported by this destination.

Translator supports the conversion of Ensoniq Bank Files. Ensoniq Banks simply refer to the loading of seperate Ensoniq Instruments at one time. Translator simply treats these files as a "macro" to load and convert these seperate Instruments in one operation. This is helpful for destination formats that hold various Programs/Instruments in one file, such as Giga, SoundFont, Emu, etc, but it useful for all destination formats.
